Westchester Front Nine - 2004

  1. Summer rules will be in effect so play them as they lie.

  2. USGA and local rules will be in effect. This means stroke and distance for out of bounds and stroke and drop on line of flight for a ball in the lake. The drop area may be used on #2 when designated. A ball entering the lake from a hole other than #2, first assesses a hazard penalty and then is moved back to the proper fairway.

  3. Ball in wrong fairway must be lifted and dropped in own fairway. No penalty. A ball in the wrong fairway is defined as "ball two club lengths beyond the drip line of trees marking the boundary between the two adjoining fairways". The ball shall be dropped at arms length at a point within two club lengths of the boundary formed by the tree drip line while facing the flag in the proper fairway no nearer the hole. The point of drop must be approved by one of the opponents or, by an outside agency if agreement cannot be established. Note that this rule applies only when there are two adjoining fairways.

  4. Ball may be moved two club lengths from poles and fences but no closer to the hole. No penalty. This includes all interior, protective fencing. On holes such as #5 where protective fences are involved, the ball should be dropped within two club lengths of the tree drip line in the proper fairway. There is no relief from fences defining an out-of-bounds.

  5. A ball may be moved two club lengths without penalty, no nearer the hole, when a light standard, protective screen, or power pole is on the line of flight of the ball. The ball shall be dropped at arms length while facing the flag and played where it comes to rest.

Hole #5. You may take "free relief" from the radar tower. This includes stance, swing and ball flight. A ball within the radar tower fence, receives a free drop, no closer to the hole. All other areas to the right of the #5 fairway between the tee and the radar tower, are to be treated as a lateral hazard. If you find your ball, you may play it as it lies, or take a 1 stroke penalty and drop it back on the fairway no closer to the hole from where the ball entered the hazard (departed from the fairway). If the ball is not found, take a 1 stroke penalty and play at a point on the fairway along the original ball trajectory that provides relief from the hazard and the radar tower. NOTE: From within the hazard, free relief from the radar tower takes precedence. When in doubt, provisionally play it as it lies and if the tower proves to interfere with the ball flight, replace the ball to achieve relief from the obstruction, and then replay the stroke.

  6. White stakes on #3, 5, and 7 define interior out-of-bounds. All perimeter fences and golf range fences also define out-of-bounds. Area behind the 9th green (cart paths, putting green, etc.) and within the perimeter fence, are played as ground under repair. Free drop, no penalty, from nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole.

Hole #3. Out of bounds is determined by the last white stake.

  7. CHANGE - The rule stipulating that the player should pick up the ball and record a triple bogey in order to speed up play has been eliminated. Since this is Match play, the player may pick up with a triple bogey or higher to speed up play, but ONLY after the hole has been lost, (and with the consent of the opposition). If there is any doubt, play out the hole.
