News

The AEA Tai Chi Club will be offering the following internal martial arts classes with Master Su in the May - September timeframe. Specifics will follow in separate email announcements for each of the classes. All sessions start @ 11:30 AM at Del Aire Park.

May - August                Traditional Bagua Zhang Class with Master Su (16 sessions on TUESDAYS)                 $80/person for current club members *
We learned the 8 routines of Traditional Bagua Zhang already.  This would be the same 8 routines but on the 'other side' going in the 'other direction.'  We would also continue to practice and improve what we learned already.  The goal is to be comfortable practicing the 8 routines on 'both sides' and going in 'both directions.'  In these 16 sessions of class, Master Su advises covering the first 4 routines and assess feedback from students from continuing.  Finishing the last 4 routines in Traditional Bagua Zhang will require an additional 16 sessions.  Total to learn all 8 routines on 'both sides' and going in 'both directions' will require a total of 32 sessions.

May - September        Traditional Tai Chi Long Form Class with Master Su  (22 sessions on WEDNESDAYS)         $110/person for current club members *

We will resume learning the remaining 72 forms of Tai Chi Long Form with Master Su in 22 sessions.  New forms will include high kicks and low forms.  The remaining 72 forms will also include repetition of some of the 36 forms that we learned earlier but in different sequences.  Prior knowledge of the first 36 forms is required since this is a continuation class.

May - August
New Tai Chi 32-Form Sword Class with Master Su (THURSDAYS; 24 Sessions Total. $120/person student payment. *
Tai Chi 32-Form Sword is the next level of sword weapons class after Tai Chi 16-Form Sword.  Previous experience with Tai Chi 16-Form Sword is helpful but not required.  However, because Tai Chi Weapons is based on the fundamentals of Tai Chi, prior experience with Tai Chi is required.

May - June                Xingyi Quan LEVEL 2 Five Elements Class with Master Zhao Yun (8 sessions; Day of Week TBD)         $40/person for current club members *

Benefits of Tai Chi Practice

In addition to being one of the main branches of Chinese kung fu, Tai Chi Chuan is well known as effective practice for stress reduction and health improvement. Tai Chi has sometimes been described as joint yoga because of the character of the movements. Tai Chi has elements of Qigong, standing and moving meditation. As a martial art, Tai Chi Chuan is built on balance, body structure, relaxation and patience. It is also built on "chi" which might be described as the unifying component ("intention") that integrates the physical (substantial - e.g., body) and the nonphysical (insubstantial - e.g., mind). At high levels Tai Chi Chuan is an extremely effective martial art, but it can take a a long time to learn. These and other aspects of Tai Chi make the practice of Tai Chi Chuan a life style choice rather than a quick course of self-defense techniques or quick fix set of health exercises.
